Barry is a former senior public servant with the Australian Government. Over the last 30 years, Barry has worked in the community sector, academia and many parts of the public service including social security, disability, community and Indigenous affairs.

Originally trained as a social worker, Barry also has a Masters in Social Policy. He has a particular interest in community based service delivery with a focus on rural and remote areas and Indigenous communities and was awarded the Public Service Medal in 2002 “recognizing the commitment you have made to the area of Indigenous social policy – helped to build stronger Australian communities through effective and sustainable policy”.
